] has really been taking off, up 40 percent in three weeks. UP.
Now the small airline, based in Las Vegas, is celebrating one year of service out of Phoenix by offering $15 one-way airline tickets! You have to purchase by 6p eastern TODAY, and use the tickets before the end of January. Wow! Oh wait.
Before you start packing your bags for Florida or Vegas, the tickets only go from Phoenix to places like Bismarck, North Dakota, or Billings, Montana, or Redmond, Oregon. Well, who wouldn't want to go to Bismarck this time of year? Any time of year?
But here's the real rub. The ticket may cost you $15, but the fees could cost you well over $60. I'm not kidding. First, you have to pay a $10.50 "Sept. 11 security fee" for every takeoff and landing on the trip. A "convenience fee" of $11.50 will be added if you book online, plus another $10 per takeoff and landing if you book over the phone.
If you purchase ahead of time, you'll pay $15 per checked bag for the first two bags, and the fees go up from there (so you fly for the same price as a checked bag!). If you purchase tickets at the airport, your checked bags actually cost more to fly than you do—$25 per bag.
