While well off their lows and now even in positive territory, the Dow,  S&P and NASDAQ had been down for the sixth straight day.  The last time all three indices were down for the same 6 days in a row was in January 1991. 

Here are the stats for 6, 7, and 8 day losing streaks in case the streaks continue (hopefully, they won't).

Dow [.DJIA  Loading...      ()   ] - Biggest Losing Streak Ever was 12 days

  • Dow 6-day losing streaks
    • 1st time since 8/16/2007 when it fell 5.9% over the 6 days
    • Biggest 6 day losing streak point loss was 812 also on 8/16/2007
    • Biggest 6 day losing percent loss was 14.23% on 10/18/1937
  • Dow 7-day losing streaks
    • Last time was 7/16/2002 when it fell 9.7% over 7 days
    • Biggest 7 day losing streak point loss was 906 also on 7/16/2002
    • Biggest 7 day losing percent loss was 18.5% on 4/8/1932
  • Dow 8-day losing streaks
    • Last time was 5/9/1989 when it fell 2.0% over 8 days
    • Biggest 8 day losing streak point loss was 76 on 8/19/1974
    • Biggest 8 day losing percent loss was 19.6% on 4/11/1932

S&P [.SPX  Loading...      ()   ] - Biggest Losing Streak ever was 12 days

  • S&P 6-day losing streaks
    • 1st time since 4/29/2002 when it fell 5.3% over the 6 days
    • Biggest 6 day losing streak point loss was 60 also on 4/29/2002
    • Biggest 6 day losing percent loss was 16.5% on 4/7/1932
  • S&P 7-day losing streaks
    • Last time was 6/19/1996 when it fell 1.5% over 7 days
    • Biggest 7 day losing streak point loss was 12 on 9/10/1991
    • Biggest 7 day losing percent loss was 18.7% on 4/08/1932
  • S&P 8-day losing streaks
    • Last time was 6/19/1996 when it fell 1.7% over 8 days
    • Biggest 8 day losing streak point loss was 12 on 12/10/1980
    • Biggest 8 day losing percent loss was 20.0% on 4/11/1932

  • NASDAQ 6-day losing streaks
    • 1st time since 1/8/2008 when it fell 8.7% over the 6 days
    • Biggest 6 day losing streak point loss was 599 also on 12/20/2000
    • Biggest 6 day losing percent loss was 20.4% on 12/20/2000
  • NASDAQ 7-day losing streaks
    • Last time was 1/8/2008 when it fell 8.8% over 7 days
    • Biggest 7 day losing streak point loss was 682 on 12/20/2000
    • Biggest 7 day losing percent loss was 22.6% on 12/20/2000
  • NASDAQ 8-day losing streaks
    • Last time was 1/8/2008 when it fell 10.4% over 8 days
    • Biggest 8 day losing streak point loss was 284 also on 1/8/2008
    • Biggest 8 day losing percent loss was 10.6% on 7/8/1974

Some of the biggest losers in the S&P over the past 6 sessions include General Growth Properties (GGP), Ford (F), XL Capital (XL), Principal Financial Group (PFG) and Metlife (MET).
