NEW YORK - The Energy Department will likely report an 61 billion to 66 billion cubic feet drop in natural gas reserves on Thursday for the week ended Nov. 28, according to a survey by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos.

The Energy Information Administration releases its weekly report at 10:35 EST.

A reading above or below estimates can influence market trading.

Last Wednesday, the EIA said natural gas inventories held in underground storage in the lower 48 states dropped by 66 billion cubic feet to about 3.42 trillion cubic feet for the week ending Nov. 21.

That missed the 43 billion to 48 billion cubic feet drop analysts had expected, according to a survey by Platts, the energy information arm of McGraw-Hill Cos.

After that report, natural gas for January delivery jumped 49.2 cents to settle at $6.878 per 1,000 cubic feet.
