London, 13 August 2008 - CNBC Europe, the leading pan-European business and financial news channel, has appointed Martin Baccardax as Economics Editor.  Baccardax, who has been News Editor since 2006, will now take a solely on-air role making regular appearances to CNBC Europe’s flagship programmes including Squawk Box Europe, Worldwide Exchange and Power Lunch Europe.

Baccardax will cover key finance and economic events, such as central bank policy decisions and interest rate decisions from the Monetary Policy Committee, which are reported live from outside the Bank of England.  Baccardax also contributes to CNBC.com, writing a regular column on interest rates and credit market topics.

Baccardax has more than 18 years of experience in finance and financial journalism and has been a contributor to CNBC Europe’s programmes for the past two years.

Prior to joining CNBC Europe, Baccardax held editorial positions at both Bloomberg News and Dow Jones Newswires, where he wrote frequently for the Wall Street Journal Europe, and regularly appeared on CNN, ITN, ITV and the BBC.  Before working in the financial news industry, Baccardax spent eight years as a fixed-income broker in Toronto and London.
