The Dow's market cap fell by -7.60% or $237B in one day, from Wednesday's close to Thursday's close.  At the Dow's current levels of about 8,251, the Dow is on track to lose almost another 4% in market cap today or about another $106B in market cap
*If the Dow closes around 8,251 Friday, it will have a two day loss in market cap of $343B

Dow Components Biggest Market Cap Losers by %:

  • General Motors (GM) was the biggest loser with a loss of $1.2B in market cap or a -31.11% decline in market cap to $2.7B.
    • GM is currently trading at lows at almost 60 year lows
    • Since GM is trading up over 5% today, its current market cap is back up to $2.8
  • Alcoa (AA) was the second biggest loser with a loss of $10B or a decline of -15.30% in market cap to $10.1B
    • Alcoa is trading at almost 13 year lows not seen since December, 1995 when it closed at 12.44
    • Alcoa is down about another 7% today, and at its current levels of about 11.60, it is on track to lose almost another $700M in market cap falling to $9.4B
  • Chevron (CVX) was the third biggest loser yesterday with a loss of almost $19B in market cap falling to a market cap of $131B
    • At 58, Chevron is trading at more than 2-year lows
    • Chevron is down another 10% today and is on track to lose another $12.5B in market cap
  • Exxon Mobil (XOM) was the 4th biggest loser with a loss of $46B in market cap, falling to $353B market cap
    • Exxon is trading at more than 2 year lows not seen since May, 2006
    • At about 62, Exxon is down over 9% again today, and on track to lose another $33B in market cap
  • American Express (AXP) was the 5th biggest loser with a loss of $3.6B in market cap falling to $27.8B in market cap
    • American Express is trading at more than 6-year lows, at its current levels, but at the low of the day, it was trading at almost 10 year lows
    • At about 22, AXP is down about 8% again today, and on track to lose another $2.1B in market cap

Dow Components with the least Market Cap loss by %: Dominated by the Tech Stocks

  • International Business Machines (IBM) was the least negative with a loss of $2.1B in market cap or a -1.71% decline in market cap to $120.5B.
    • IBM is currently trading at lows at about 2 year lows
    • Since IBM is trading down over 3% again today, it is tracking to lose about another $4B in market cap
  • McDonald's (MCD) was the second least negative with a loss of $1.5B in market cap or a -2.49% decline in market cap to $58.5B.
    • MCD  is currently trading within its 52-wk range
    • Since MCD is trading down over 3% again today, it is tracking to lose about another $2B in market cap today
  • Microsoft (MSFT) was the third least negative with a loss of $6.5B in market cap or a -3.09% decline in market cap to $203B.
    • MSFT  is currently trading at more than 2 year lows, but at its lows on the day it was at more than 8 year lows
    • Since MSFT is trading down over 3% again today, it is tracking to lose about another $7B in market cap today
  • Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) was the fourth least negative with a loss of $3.6B in market cap or a -3.75% decline in market cap to $94.3B.
    • HPQ is currently trading at about 2 year lows
    • Since HPQ is trading down over 3% again today, it is tracking to lose about another $3.2B in market cap today
  • Intel (INTC) was the fifth least negative with a loss of $3.7B in market cap or a -4% decline in market cap to $89.3B.
    • INTC is currently trading at more than 6 year lows
    • Since INTC is trading down almost 5% again today, it is tracking to lose about another $4.4B in market cap today
