SANTA CLARA, Calif. - McAfee Inc., which makes computer security software, said Thursday third-quarter earnings fell 23 percent on an impairment charge, but the adjusted result beat expectations.
Net income slid to $48.8 million, or 31 cents per share, from $63.4 million, or 39 cents per share, in the year-ago period.
Adjusted earnings climbed 14 percent to $82.2 million, or 53 cents per share. That result beat estimates on Wall Street, where analysts expected profit of 49 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters.
Revenue rose 27 percent to $409.7 million from $322 million last year, and beat analyst estimates of $395.2 million.
Profit was held down in the latest quarter by a $12.4 million impairment on marketable securities and higher expenses.
In electronic aftermarket trading, McAfee shares gained $1.25, or 4.5 percent, to $29 after closing Thursday at $27.75.
