MILWAUKEE - Shares of J.M. Smucker Co. rose Friday, one day after Standard & Poor's said it would add the jam and jelly maker to the S&P 500-stock index next week.

Smucker shares rose $2.17, or nearly 5 percent, to $45.65 in morning trading Friday.

The Orrville, Ohio, company will replace Terex Corp. in the index on Wednesday. That's the day its deal to take over the Folgers coffee business of Procter & Gamble Co. is set to expire. The $2.95 billion stock deal will roughly double the size of Smucker.

Terex, a construction-equipment builder based in Westport, Conn., will replace Smucker in the S&P MidCap 400.
