Among the earnings stories for Monday, Nov. 3, from AP Financial News:
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Auto insurer Mercury General Corp. said Monday it swung to a loss in the third quarter, as it paid out more in claims and expenses than it received from writing new premiums.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Simon Property Group Inc., which operates malls and shopping centers in the U.S. and overseas, said Monday its profit fell nearly 32 percent in the third quarter from a year earlier, when its results were boosted by more than $80 million in asset sales.
GREENSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Electric utility Allegheny Energy Inc. said Monday higher coal prices and warm weather helped pull its third-quarter earnings down 23 percent and keep its revenue mostly stagnant.
NEW YORK (AP) — MFA Mortgage Investments Inc., a real estate investment trust that purchases mortgage securities, said Monday it swung to a profit in the third quarter as the company benefited from lower borrowing costs.
ATLANTA (AP) — Crawford & Co., which provides claims management services for insurance companies, said Monday that its third-quarter earnings doubled, boosted by strong results from its international operations.
