SPOKANE, Wash. - A large amount of gasoline has spilled from a huge storage tank at the Exxon Mobil facility in the Spokane Valley.

The spill lasted some 90 minutes after a temperature sensor broke in the 1.6 million gallon tank. The amount spilled is not immediately known.

Firefighters used a wood plug to stop the leak. The gasoline was contained by earthen dikes, but some could have leaked into the ground.

The state Department of Ecology is investigating and says the major concern is that gasoline could contaminate the Spokane aquifer.
