More From McCain Headquarters: Will Palin Speak? (Yes)

The party at McCain headquarters is supposed to start in six hours, and we still don't know who's on the program. I've been told the campaign sent out six thousand invitations, and, at last word, campaign media staffers either didn't know who was coming, or wouldn't say.

I tend to think they just don't know yet; someone higher up on the food chain may know but it hasn't trickled down yet. Will we see Carly Fiorina? Meg Whitman? Bo Derek?

I can tell you this: we called Chuck Norris' people. Norris, an early supporter of Mike Huckabee, eventually came out in support of the for McCain-Palin ticket. But Norris is staying at his Texas ranch tonight and doesn't want to comment until after the election. We've also called and texted the agent for "Joe the Plumber" (yes, he has an agent now) but haven't heard whether Joe will be here.

As I blogged earlier, most of the night's festivities are supposed to be in the ballroom at the Arizona Biltmore.Only Sen. McCain's speech is supposed to be out on the lawn, which has room for about 2,000 people. If more arrive, they'd have to stay in the ballroom, and it's not even clear yet that his speech will be put up on monitors inside!

And what about Gov. Sarah Palin? She's expected to land in Phoenix around 6 pm local time tonight (8 pm eastern), and then make her way over to...here? That's what I assumed. Would she come speak in the ballroom? Well, there are no plans to do a Secret Service sweep of that room, so...no. Would she speak outside on the lawn before Sen. John McCain? Well, that would kind of steal his thunder with the big flag out there. Is it possible that she won't speak at all?

Stay tuned.

Update: The McCain campaign folks tell us that Carly Fiorina and Cisco's John Chambers "may" be here, but that Meg Whitman will not be.

Update, update: Ok, so after much haranguing, we've been told that Gov. Palin will speak on the lawn, in front of the big flag, before John McCain speaks tonight.

Meantime, the folks at Second Life contacted me after I blogged about virtual dating to say that several election parties are being held in cyberspace tonight in Second Life. Gee, what if Obama wins in "first life" but McCain wins in Second Life--what will the Second Life Electoral College do?
