WASHINGTON - A unit of Germany-based software maker SAP AG spent $880,000 in the third quarter to lobby the U.S. government on agriculture and defense spending, homeland security, intelligence matters and veterans' issues, according to a recent disclosure report.

SAP, which provides payroll, inventory management and accounting programs for companies, also lobbied on government contract databases, cyber security, farm legislation, and intelligence and surveillance issues, according to the report filed Oct. 17 with the House clerk's office.

In the July-September period, SAP America Inc. lobbied Congress, the departments of Agriculture, Homeland Security and Veterans Affairs, the General Services Administration and Office of Management and Budget.

Robert Stien, former counsel to Rep. Lee Terry, R-Neb., and David Myers, former military legislative assistant to Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M., were among those registered to lobby for SAP.
