Results of some ballot measures affecting state budgets:

ALABAMA:

Establish a rainy day fund account specifically for education. APPROVED

ALASKA:

$315.05 million transportation bond. APPROVED

ARKANSAS:

Create a state lottery to fund higher education scholarships. APPROVED

$300 million bond for water, waste disposal and pollution abatement facilities. APPROVED

CALIFORNIA:

$5 billion bond for alternative fuel vehicles and renewable energy projects. DEFEATED

$900 million bond for veterans' housing. APPROVED

$9.95 billion bond for design and construction of high-speed rail. APPROVED

$980 million bond for children's hospitals. APPROVED

COLORADO:

0.2 percent sales tax increase to fund services for the disabled. DEFEATED

Require that some taxes from mineral extraction be spent on transportation projects. DEFEATED

Increase taxes on oil and gas extraction. DEFEATED

LOUISIANA:

Increase taxes on mineral extraction. DEFEATED

Permit investment of non-pension retirement benefit funds in equities. DEFEATED

MAINE:

Repeal new taxes on some beverages and on insurance claim payments. APPROVED

Allow a casino. DEFEATED

MARYLAND:

Authorize slot-machine gambling. APPROVED

MASSACHUSETTS:

Repeal state income tax. DEFEATED

MINNESOTA:

0.375 percent sales tax increase for natural resource protection and arts. APPROVED

MISSOURI:

Require state to produce 15 percent of its electricity from clean energy by 2021. APPROVED

MONTANA:

Shift $22 million of state revenue to support health coverage for uninsured children. APPROVED

NEW JERSEY:

Require voter approval for state-backed bonds. APPROVED

NORTH DAKOTA:

Establish a rainy day fund using oil tax revenue. DEFEATED

Cut income tax rates by 50 percent for individuals, 15 percent for corporations. DEFEATED

OHIO:

$400 million bonds for environmental revitalization and conservation.

Allow the state's first casino. DEFEATED

PENNSYLVANIA:

$400 million bond for water and sewer improvements.
