ST. LOUIS - Amdocs Ltd., which provides operations software to telecommunications companies, said Wednesday it will pay $60 million to acquire Changing Worlds Ltd., which makes technology used by mobile service providers.

Changing Worlds' customers include Sprint and Vodafone Global. Its applications give providers detailed information about mobile Internet subscribers' preferences. Amdocs intends to expand the technology to mobile, PC and television screen to personalize customers' experience.

Amdocs said it could take a charge related to the purchase in the last quarter of 2008. The acquisition is not expected to affect the company's fiscal 2009 earnings.

Shares of Amdocs Ltd. fell $3.98, or 16.8 percent, to $19.65 in electronic aftermarket trading Wednesday. Shares fell 43 cents to close earlier at $23.63.
