ST. LOUIS - Shoe retailer Bakers Footwear Group Inc. said Thursday that same-store sales rose 6.2 percent in October on increased sales of regular-priced footwear for fall.

Same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, are a key measure of retailer performance, because they measure growth at existing stores rather than from newly opened ones.

For the four-week period ended Nov. 1, total sales increased 3.1 percent to $13.4 million from $13 million last year.

Year-to-date, the company's net sales decreased 2.5 percent to $128.2 million. Same-store sales decreased 0.8 percent year-to-date.
