Deutsche Post ex-CEO charged in tax evasion probe
BERLIN - German prosecutors have confirmed media reports that they have charged the former CEO of Deutsche Post, Klaus Zumwinkel, in a tax invasion investigation.
A statement Friday from the prosecutor's office in Bochum, Germany has not specified the charges and says no further details would be divulged.
Germany's Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported Thursday that the charges allege he avoided 1.2 million euros ($1.53 million) in taxes.
Zumwinkel is the highest profile suspect in an investigation of tax evasion by German citizens using banks in the tiny tax haven of Liechtenstein. He resigned from his position earlier this year after Bochum prosecutors opened an investigation against him.
