"I'm a full-time college student who can only afford to work 15 hours a week...you think I would stay in my budget...no, instead I head to the mall whenever I feel like it resulting in a about $300-500 a trip and expect my parents to bail me out... this has got to stop."
(From Jane: the fastest way to stop is for your parents to just say "no.")
"I just spent $40 on some finasteride--hair loss medication."
"I spent 8000 last month on a new laptop, cell phone, clothes and more while I already have a laptop and stuff. I'm a consumer whore."
FRUGAL IS THE NEW BLING
Remember when "He who has the most toys wins"? That is so Dow 14000.
On the heels of my post yesterday on JoAnn Stores' booming business, a new survey shows that most shoppers are now proud to save "in little ways." The "How America Shops" survey from WSL says 52 percent of shoppers use coupons, and 62 percent say they wait for a sale before buying. Another 62 percent say they're making meals at home—but is that an increase? I mean, I've always made most meals at home, to the chagrin of my kids, who refer to my cooking experiments as "Dr. Mommy's Scary Kitchen."
WSL also reports that "While women are thriftier than men, there is little difference in thriftiness based on income: it is an equal opportunity recession."
