Stock Picker:  Index Buying is History

The market landscape has changed dramatically, according to Barber Financial Group's Dean Barber.

"Not that you can't be a long-term investor, but I don't think our markets are going to give us that nice little upward trend that we saw for so many years," he told CNBC. "You have to be more tactical."

He's not convinced by recent market gains.

"We could see this bounce continue for a little bit, but I don't think it's anything sustainable," he said. "I think we'll see it quite a bit lower."

Recommendations:

He believes it's time to become more selective.

"The health-care sector will continue to perform well, the energy sector will continue to perform well, but just the blanket of saying, 'Let's just go out and own the S&P 500 index,' that's going to be difficult," he said.
