Carnival sues Rolls over Queen Mary 2 propulsion
MIAMI - Carnival Corp. is suing Rolls-Royce over a propulsion system for the Queen Mary 2 ship that the Miami-based cruise line claims is defective.
Carnival is seeking $100 million in damages in a lawsuit filed earlier this week in federal court. The suit contends that the British company deliberately deceived Carnival about problems with the Rolls-Royce Mermaid propulsion system. Carnival says the system has not worked properly since the Queen Mary 2 went into service in 2004.
Rolls-Royce officials did not immediately respond to an e-mail Wednesday seeking comment.
Rolls-Royce also has been sued over the Mermaid system by Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
