BOISE, Idaho - The Corrections Corp. of America has won the contract to continue running Idaho's only private prison.

Steve Owen, a spokesman for the Nashville, Tenn.-based private prison company says Idaho officials notified CCA of their intent to award the bid in a letter.

CCA has been running the prison since it opened in 2000. The company won the bid over competitors, GEO Group Inc. and Management and Training Corp.

The state's use of private prisons has come under scrutiny in recent months. A report by the Idaho Department of Correction showed the Idaho Correctional Center near Boise had three times the rate of violence than any other Idaho prison.
