DeVry fall undergrad enrollment jumps 16.9 percent

NEW YORK - For-profit education provider DeVry Inc. on Thursday said fall enrollment for undergraduates at its DeVry University unit rose 16.9 percent.

DeVry University, which offers associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs in technology, health care technology, business and management, said undergraduate enrollment at both its physical campuses and online jumped to 52,146 students, from 44,594 students last year.

New undergraduate students numbered 15,811, up 19.7 percent from 13,204 last year.

In its graduate programs, DeVry said the number of course takers gained 13.7 percent, to 17,803, from 15,657 last year. Course takers is a measure of the number of people registered for each course, and could count the same individuals multiple times, if they are taking more than one course.

The number of online course takers in both undergraduate and graduate programs jumped 25.5 percent, to 51,628, from 41,128 last year.

DeVry shares gained $1.16, or 2 percent, to $57.25 in aftermarket electronic trading, from their close at $56.09 in the regular session.
