DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - The 2009 Indian Masters was canceled Friday due to security fears following the Mumbai terror attacks and difficulties finding a sponsor during the global economic downturn.

The European Tour Event was to have been played from Feb.5-8 at the Delhi Golf Club.

"The current economic uncertainty coupled to security concerns made it impossible for us to present the tournament in the manner that we would wish to for world class golfers," promoter Mohamed Juma Buamaim said.

Last week's terror attacks in Mumbai left at least 170 people dead and 239 wounded.
