Does Los Angeles Have A "Heart"?

Los Angeles has long suffered from any reason to go downtown on a regular basis. Billionaire Philip Anschutz thinks he can change that. Anschutz owns AEG (Anschutz Entertainment Group), which just opened the second phase of the massive $2.5 billion LA Live complex.

Timing may be off, though, as the city has a $110 million deficit, the county has an 8.4 percent jobless rate, and the state is threatening to start issuing IOU's.

Last night's lighting of a metallic tree at LA Live featured the two most important people in Los Angeles: USC coach Pete Carroll and Britney Spears.

Posted here is my interview with AEG CEO Tim Lieweke, who explains why this effort to give LA a heart may work. And listen to the news on pre-sales of Britney Spears concert tickets.
