There is an old habit in the public relations business. If you have bad news to tell, do it when no one is really paying attention.
Like right before a holiday.
We here in the CNBC.com newsroom are wondering if we are going to get any of that this Christmas Eve. Traffic is already down. In addition to Thursday, Hanukkah is underway. And Kwanzaa begins on Friday. Naturally some folks are inclined to take the whole week off of work. That translates into less surfing from the company broadband connection and less people paying attention to the business news.
It also translates into an excellent time to float out whatever bad numbers or developments a company may have waiting in the wings.
What could it be? More bank write-offs? A layoff announcement? Earnings warning?
Guess we'll see on Wednesday. Got a guess?
