Supertex Shares Soar on Ownership Filing

Supertex [SUPX  Loading...      ()   ] is up nearly 14 percent Wednesday on heavy trading volume, after Microchip Technology [MCHP  Loading...      ()   ] filed papers declaring 5.4 percent ownership in the circuit manufacturer late last night.

We find no unusual options activity in SUPX today, but note that Microchip sold puts recently to acquire more than 100,000 shares.

Stock volume in the first 70 minutes of the session topped the full-day average for the last 20 days, on a slow holiday week at that.

Supertex, which designs and produces high-voltage analog and mixed-signal integrated circuits, was also just upgraded by Lazard Capital to "buy" from "hold." The company is scheduled to present at the 11th Annual Needham Growth Stock Conference in New York in January.
