I want to get a credit report for myself but not sure where I should get it. There are so many web sites advertising free credit reports. I want to protect myself and make sure I'm getting the credit report from a trusted and safe place. Could you recommend me a credit report company? -Cheryl

I sure can. You can claim your Federally mandated free reports at AnnualCreditReport.com. When you sit down at your computer go ahead and put blinders on and hide your wallet because they'll try like crazy to sell you something while you're claiming your freebies.

Or, if you aren't comfortable doing this on the Internet then you can download an order form from that site and fill it out and mail it in. I actually like that option better because the report you get is a little more comprehensive and easy to understand.
