EU wary about latest natural gas deal

BRUSSELS, Belgium - The European Union is warily welcoming the latest deal to end the gas dispute between Russia and Ukraine but says the real test is to get natural gas flowing again to Europe.

EU nations have struggled to find alternative sources of energy for two weeks amid the cutoff of Russian gas. Several deals have been struck but none has produced a breakthrough.

The EU Commission said in a statement Sunday there have been "many false dawns in this dispute, and the test in this case is whether or not the gas flows to Europe's consumers. Until that point, the wait goes on for Europe."

Relief for millions of consumers and businesses in the EU could be days away, since it is not clear when the deal will be signed.
