Last week, I laughed when a paper in England, the Times, referred to the NFC division champions as the St. Louis Cardinals.

Careless? Yes. Inexcusable? Maybe not. I’m not sure I’d get all the cities right for their soccer teams.
But last night, the Dallas Morning News, what most would think is a pretty reputable paper, published the mistake again in a headline on columnist Rick Gosselin’s column.
Here it is.

According to the time stamp on the article now, there was a modification made at 3:12 a.m. central time, more than eight hours after I initially caught the gaffe. I also noticed the comments on the bottom of the page, which referred to the error, were deleted.
For the record, the football version of the Cardinals haven’t played in St. Louis for more than 21 years. Perhaps causing the confusion is the fact that Warner of course made a name for himself while playing for the St. Louis Rams.
I can see it now.
Fast forward to the locker room before the game. Says Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt to his players: “They don’t give us any respect. They don’t even know what city we’re from.”
