With the big game just around the corner, we decided to add to last week's post on the companies that are primed for big business on the back of Super Sunday...

Sporting Goods:
  According to www.NFLshop.com, the Steelers' Troy Polamalu had the fourth best selling jersey of 2008.  The Cardinals did not have a single player jersey make the top 20.
Licensed Jerseys are averaging about $85-90 a piece, up over 10% from last year.

Companies Impacted

  • Dick's Sporting Goods [DKS  Loading...      ()   ]:  Last year, they attributed $0.05 to the company's 2006 earnings per share to sales of "licensed merchandise relating to the Super Bowl."
    -Dick's operates over 350 stores in more than 38 states
  • Sport's Authority had been publicly traded on the NYSE, but was taken private by private equity firm Leonard Green & Partners.  In May, 2006, each share of The Sports Authority was converted into $37.25 in cash.
    -Sports Authority has over 450 stores in more than 45 states
  • Modell's is family owned and operated and predominantly on the east coast: NY, NJ, PA, CT, DE, MD, MA, NH, VA, RI, DC
  • Wal-mart [WMT  Loading...      ()   ]: is cutting prices on HDTV's prior to the Super Bowl.
  • Reebok, a unit of Adidas AG [ADDYY  Loading...      ()   ]: which trades as an ADR in the U.S.:  Reebok is the official outfitter of the NFL producing the official Jerseys, official locker room hats and knit hats
