Last week, ESPN's [DIS  Loading...      ()   ] Rick Reilly wrote a story about Larry Fitzgerald Sr., the father of the Arizona Cardinals wide receiver of the same name.

The article was about how Fitzgerald Sr., a longtime reporter for the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder, would not be cheering in the press box despite the fact that his son would be playing in the Super Bowl he was covering.

Slate.com's Josh Levin thought Reilly was too easy on the journalist father and noted that Fitzgerald Sr. had written at least 23 articles on his son since 2003.

We caught up with both Reilly and Fitzgerald Sr. before interviewing the Pittsburgh Steelers today.

"The reason I'm in the position I'm in and my son is in the position he's in is because we don't worry about the negatives," Fitzgerald Sr. told us. "Negatives come from haters. They can believe in whatever they want to believe in."

Reilly said he had not seen the article, but when briefed on the subject matter said, "I'm still waiting for someone to say that he's going to be cheering in the press box."

"What do people expect him to do? rip his own son?" Reilly asked.

"Looks like someone just got a new search button and decided to use it."
