I was just told that the gloves that MVP Santonio Holmes supposedly wore during Super Bowl XLIII are up for auction.
I am still trying to independently confirm that this is the real deal directly from the Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver. It is listed on cMarket, which runs many auctions for non-profits, and the site says that the auction was made possible through Reebok and that all proceeds will go to the Sickle Cell Anemia Disease Association of America.
Update: The folks at Reebok are confirming that these are indeed Holmes' gloves. They are doing the auction with Holmes, whose six-year-old son, Santonio III, has been diagnosed wtih the disease.
At 5 p.m. today, bidding will start at $1,000 and the auction will close at 9:59 p.m. ET on February 15.
The closing time is the exact time Holmes made the leaping grab that eventually helped the Steelers win the Super Bowl on Sunday.
