Wachovia's Sam Brothwell thinks natural gas is a natural choice for the long-term investor.
"It's abundant — we've proven that — it's affordable; it's an American fuel; and it's also the cleanest conventional resource we've got," he told CNBC. "All of that points toward it taking a greater place at the table in the electric-power generation sector."
He admits that large discoveries of natural gas are emerging at a time of falling demand, which is why investors should think long-term.
"We're going to bounce around the bottom here in the near term," he said. "We feel that the longer-term outlook is very, very positive."
