CNBC has confirmed through multiple sources that Michael Phelps did not show up at the IBM Pulse 2009 Conference at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas, where he was scheduled to speak on Tuesday.
The conference, which is put on by IBM for its employees and business partners, began on Sunday and concludes on Thursday.
The company announced in October that Phelps would be a guest speaker at the event.
Phelps' camp told CNBC that it was Michael's decision, not IBM's, to nix the appearance.
"Michael is concentrating on swimming this week," said a spokesman from Octagon, Phelps' management company.
