RATE CHECK
The average rate on a 30-year mortgage fell over the past week to 5.16% from 5.25%, according to FREDDIEMAC.COM. Rates had risen recently since hitting a low of 4.96% a month ago.

The average rate on a one-year CD fell to 1.51% this week from 1.61%, according to BANKRATE.COM. The 5-year CD, however, rose slightly to 2.36% from 2.34%.
