Judge Recuses Himself From Stanford Case

The judge in the Securities and Exchange Commission's civil suit against Stanford Financial has recused himself after determining that "a person within the third degree of relationship" to him has "substantial holdings" managed by one of Stanford's companies.

U.S. District Judge Sam Lindsay in Dallas had been randomly assigned the case when it was filed this week. The court order issued late this afternoon doesn't say who the person related to him is, and offers no additional details about the size of the investment with Stanford.

The case has been reassigned to Judge David Godbey in the northern District of Texas, according to the court docket.
