On Obama and Word Choices
Posted By:Allen Wastler

Yesterday after the market did a little hiccup over some comments by President Obama, our market write-up featured the headline "Obama Spooks Market."

We got some hate mail, some of it personally attacking our market writer, over the use of that particular verb in conjunction with our president.

Let me assure everyone that nothing derogatory or racist was intended or even contemplated. In fact, the use of the word "spooks" is common in economic coverage. Fed Chairman Bernanke gets it a lot.

It's good to be sensitive to such things and we thank our readers for calling the possibility to our attention. But it is also possible to get carried away with such vigilance. This is one of those cases.
