NYC cabbies to donate tips to orphan twins

The parents of the 13-year-old twins were killed in a hit-and-run accident

NEW YORK - New York City taxi drivers are being asked to donate one day's tips to 13-year-old twins whose immigrant parents were killed in a hit-and-run accident.

The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers organized the fundraiser, which was announced Tuesday.

It will benefit Omar and Kareem Elnahal of Staten Island. Their father, 50-year-old Mohamad El-Nahal, was a livery cab driver.

He and his wife, 52-year-old Mervat Saad Ibrahim, were killed on Feb. 14. when their cab was broadsided by a car that police say had run a red light.

The parents bodies were flown home for burial in Cairo, Egypt.

The twins are living with their aunt and uncle on Staten Island.
