As The Soil Turns

Monday, 9 Mar 2009 | 6:28 PM ET

The saga surrounding CF Industries has more twists and turns than today’s episode of Days Of Our Lives.

Here's what happened when we last left CF...

The company had just spurned advances from Agrium -- that's right, CF turned their backs on a $3.6 billion offer and coldly said, just not interested.

And like the pretty cheerleader and the homely chess club geek, the rejection was harsh. CF said the bid was grossly inadequate, and beyond that, it would prefer to purse the object of its true affections, Terra Industries and upped their bid.

As The Soil Turns
Playing the CF Industries saga, with the Fast Money team.

Ah, but like any good drama – there’s a twist.

Terra isn't interested in CF. In fact, Terra says it wants nothing to do with CF. And the Terra board urged shareholders to reject any kind of marriage.

What will happen?

Terra doesn't want to merge with CF. And CF doesn't want to merge with Agrium.

How will the story end?

I think Agrium will probably need to bump their bid to get CF, says Karen Finerman.

And if this drama doesn't interest you in the least , Pete Najarian, says on a valuation basis the fertilizer stocks look cheap with Tim Seymour adding that Mosaic and Potash have the best pricing power.
