More bizarre tales from the funny business of TV news. If you thought David Letterman's interview with Joaquin Phoenix was bizarre, watch Providence investigative reporter Jim Taricani, of WJAR, attempt to interview accused cyber stalker Ann Bruno. Her response in just about the wackiest thing I've ever seen from a suspected CRIMINAL. I'm trying to think of how I might have handled it differently, but I'm coming up blank. When someone goes wacko on you, you have to stay calm and focused, and when that person starts moving toward you, it's time to leave. Which is exactly what Taricani did.

After I blogged about what really happens off camera, as I prepared to do a live shot outside the Mojave Airport, quite a few of you wrote in. As it turns out, I did eventually go live from the airport for CNBC Reports Tuesday night, but the "as live" I taped for Street Signs never aired, and never will.

Richard H. writes: "Your real problem was the wind! Or was that special effect you ordered to show the shot was live???"
William F. sent me this image of another "boneyard" of parked airliners in Roswell, New Mexico, which he shot after landing there: "I was quite surprised to find the large number parked there...As a child in the early 50's my father was stationed at Davis Monthan AFB in Tucson which was a repository for the B29's and B50's from WWII. We kids used to sneak under the fences and play in them until we were caught by the AF Security guards."
From Jeff J.: "Love the sunglasses. Did guards think you'd fly away in useless planes? Or tow a 747 back to LA? Were security cameras visible on fences? Maybe they were strapped to coyotes. Imagine a road runner courier sent back to security (saves money), but what's the message - 'beep beep'? Anyway, it's too bad Bernanke shot down your airplane report. What was he thinking?"
Finally, I heard from Bob Rice, the Operations Manager at the airport!: "I am the one Mike (Security Chief) called while you were out there. We had been watching you on our camera when I asked Mike to personally check it out. Even though you were behind one fence there was another one behind you, and you were on Airport property, not off Airport. You are welcome here, we just did not know you were showing up and asked FTA to give us a courtesy heads up in the future. Good stories and hope to see you again soon." (note from Jane: I certainly know where the private property line is now! And I will call ahead next time...)
