Finerman's Rising Star Stock - Monday April 27th

Monday, 27 Apr 2009 | 6:14 PM ET

Which small-cap chip maker could be a smart play on artificial intelligence. Karen Finerman says it's Emmulex !

According to thefirm's website, Emulex is the leader in converged networking solutions for the data center. Their Connectivity Continuum architecture provides intelligent networking services that transition today's infrastructure into tomorrow's unified network ecosystem.

Here are some more particulars:

Emmulex (ELX)
-Based in Costa Mesa, CA
-Sector: Technology
-Industry: Semiconductors
-Market Cap: $839 million
-52 Week Low $4.53
-52 Week High $14.74
-Down about 24% since this time last year

What makes Emmulex a rising star?

The stock looks like a takeover target, Finerman explains. Earlier this month Broadcom made a hostile move to acquire the company at $9.25 but they were not successful. I expect they will try again>

Also, I wouldn't be surprised to see other interested parties emerge, and that could include IBM and Dell . If there’s a big bidder that can afford to pay a lot more it sets up for a nice dynamic.
