Trading Swine Flu: Winners and Losers

The futures are down again this morning with uncertainty of the impact that the swine flu will ultimately have.  So far, nearly 150 people have died in Mexico from the disease as it continues to spread around the world including over 50 cases in the US.

Traders are focused on the short term gains they can make from the slow down in global commerce and tourism.  They are also looking at the potential lift that pharmaceuticals and biotechs focusing on vaccinations may see.  Switzerland's Novartis [NVS  Loading...      ()   ], for example, announced it has received the genetic code for the swine flu.  Other companies that make flu vaccines include Sanofi-Aventis [SNY  Loading...      ()   ], GlaxoSmithKline [GSK  Loading...      ()   ], and Baxter International [BAX  Loading...      ()   ]

Here are some of the stocks that moved most yesterday as the story has developed.
