The Kentucky Derby, held on the first Saturday every May, is America's longest running sporting event, with a history that stretches back more than 130 years.
Each year gamblers place more than $100 million in bets on this storied race, called the most exciting two minutes in sports. Gambling is the main element of the incredible business that the Kentucky Derby has become, but there is so much more that makes this American tradition a billion dollar industry.
"Run for the Roses," a CNBC original primetime program, examines the history, the champion horses, the owners, trainers and jockeys who have been a part of and turned Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby into American Icons. "Run for the Roses" premieres on CNBC on Thursday, April 30th at 9 PM ET/10 PM PT.
The show will repeat on the following dates:
Saturday, May 2nd at 7PM
Sunday, May 3rd at 10PM
Monday, May 4th at 9PM/1AM
