Part of its pledge only to advertise healthy meals for children

MIAMI - Burger King Corp., the nation's No. 2 hamburger chain, said Wednesday it is adding three new Kids Meal options that comply with its pledge to only advertise healthier meals to children.

The three new meals are all less than 560 calories and contain less than 600 milligrams of sodium. High levels of sodium can lead to higher blood pressure — a key factor behind heart disease and strokes.

One meal consists of a two Burger King's new bite-size burgers, called BK Burger Shots, and apple slices cut to look like french fries, with low-fat caramel dipping sauce and apple juice.

Another includes a hamburger served with Apple Fries, the dipping sauce and apple juice while the third features a four-piece serving of Chicken Tenders plus Apple Fries, dipping sauce and fat-free milk.

The home of the Whopper said last year it would limit the amount of calories, fat and sodium in its kids meals and would only advertise meals to children under 12 that meet the higher nutritional standards.
