The S&P 500 crossed above its 200-day moving average today for the first time since May 2008, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average is within points of breaking through this bullish indicator.
As upward momentum builds in the markets, a stock screen of the S&P 500 index reveals that about 60% of its components are trading above their 200-day moving average as well. However, none of the index components have breached above their 52-week highs, and only about 14 of those companies are within 10% of reaching this level.
The following table depicts the fourteen companies within the S&P 500 that have moved above their 200-day moving average, and are near their 52-week highs. As always, remember to keep in mind that this screen is just a starting point for more homework.
