AP J.D. Salinger |
The 90 year old reclusive author has his lawyers busy trying to block publication of an unauthorized sequel to The Catcher in the Rye.
The sequel - 60 Years Later: Coming Through the Rye picks up with Caulfield at the age of 76 wandering about the streets of New York having escaped from a retirement home.
In court documents Salinger claims, "Holden Caulfield is only a frozen moment in time." He claims he and he alone owns the rights to the book and to Caulfield.
One of my favorite publicist - Larry Hughes has an interesting take on this story.
"In honor of J.D. Salinger’s lawsuit attempting to block publication of an unauthorized sequel to The Catcher in the Rye, my blog Classics Rock! features a roundup of songs that reference the book (by Green Day, Guns N’ Roses, and many others) yet somehow dodged the Salinger litigation bullet."
