Burned By Agrium, Fortress & More

They looked like hot stocks; so how are the Fast Money traders playing Agrium, Fortress and other stocks now that they've been burned.

Karen Finerman

On May 26th the Chairwoman couldn’t bear the thought of buying retail. At the time she said, “Short the XRT [XRT  Loading...      ()   ], the retail index.”

Turns out, Finerman isn’t such as savvy shopper after all. Since she said to play it short – shares have climbed about 5%. What does she have to say for herself?

I still believe in this trade, she says, though admittedly I'm early.

Guy Adami

On May 20th the Negotiator thought a long position in a fertilizer stock would make profits grow. At the time he said, “If you want to be in the space you should be long Agrium [AGU  Loading...      ()   ].”

Looks like Adami's portfolio needs a little Miracle-Gro. Since he said long, shares of Agrium have slipped 8%. What does he have to say for himself now?

I rode the trade too long, he admits. I should have gotten out.

Tim Seymour

On May 18th the Ambassador suggested looking to South Africa for a shiny trade. At the time he said, “I love Gold Fields [GFI  Loading...      ()   ].”

Unfortunately this trade didn’t show Seymour any love at all. Since he said long, shares of Gold Fields have tumbled about 8%. What does he have to say for himself now?

I still think their cost base is cheap and they are improving productivity, he says. But I was definitely wrong.

Joe Terranova

On May 28th the Liquidator thought he saw dollar signs in the stock of a private equity firm. At the time he said, “I think Fortress [FIG  Loading...      ()   ] is something you want to take a look at, especially with the stock trading down around $5.”

Terranova won’t be mistaken for Phineas T. Moneybags, anytime soon. Since he said long, shares of Fortress have tumbled about 10%. What does he have to say for himself now?

I'm still a buyer of FIG between $3.50 and $3.75, he says.
