Really? Socks?
I made him put the socks on the wrong feet and take a walk. Any difference? "They feel a little tight," he said, wondering if he might be imagining it.
What a brilliant marketing ploy! What if he loses the right sock in the dryer? Can he use an extra left sock? No, that wouldn't do. Can he buy only right socks or left socks from Nike to make up for the occasional lost sock? Of course not, he has to buy a pair. That way they can really sock it to him!
This. Is. Why. Nike. Is. Smart. When it comes to creating buzz about any piece of athletic apparel which could conceivably give you the impression of having an edge, they just...do it. Hey, I'm not saying the socks don't work (at whatever it is they're supposed to be working at), I'm just saying they're not going to help him break 80 on the links.

The Nike anatomical socks are apparently popular, because they're sold out on some web sites. It's even hard to find them at the Nike.com store. The socks have generally received good customer reviews, though Olympic runner Lynn Jennings told the New York Times in 2007 that anatomical socks make no difference in her running. In fact, they force her to think about one more thing every morning. ''I just want to put on my shoes and socks and run," she told the Times.
We've asked Nike for information on how well these socks are selling compared to regular socks (also known as anatomically incorrect socks? Is that like a girl wearing a boy's socks?). I'll let you know what the company says. I also want to know if they'll ever sell singles for just one foot. I don't want my husband to embarrass himself in a car accident by being caught wearing two left socks.
