Doctors and the rest of America listened intently as President Obama spoke about healthcare at the annual meeting at the American Medical Association on Monday.
And the president stunned the crowd when he said, "If we do not fix our healthcare system, America may go the way of GM; paying more, getting less, and going broke," he said.
Obama wants the U.S. Congress to send him a sweeping overhaul of the $2.5 trillion U.S. healthcare system by October and provide coverage for the tens of millions of Americans who are currently uninsured.
If Obama gets what he wants, HMOs may find themselves competing with a vast public insurance system – on the order of Medicare.
As healthcare lands squarely in Washington’s sights, how should you play the sector?
I don’t think you can, counsels Joe Terranova. There’s just too much uncertainty.
