Here are the historical averages for the markets and last year's biggest gainers between the summer solstice and the autumnal equinox:

  • Avg gain of 1.7%
  • Up 64.5% of the time, with an avg gain of 7.2% when up
  • Biggest gain in 1932 - up + 58.7%
  • Biggest loss in 1931 - down - 26.1%
  • Biggest gainers last summer:
    • Bank of America (BAC) up +26.0%
    • Kraft (KFT) up + 13.3%
    • McDonald's (MCD) up +9.0%
    • JP Morgan Chase (JPM) up +7.8%
    • Proctor & Gamble (PG) up +7.7%

  • Avg gain of 1.7%
  • Up 60.5% of the time, with an avg gain of 7.6% when up
