SANTA FE, N.M. - A federal grand jury has subpoenaed documents from New Mexico's educational pension agency about a financial firm implicated in a pay-to-play investigation involving a New York state pension fund.

The grand jury also issued a subpoena for the e-mail correspondence of the chairman of the Educational Retirement Board.

The agency released copies of the subpoenas on Thursday in response to public records requests by The Associated Press and other news organizations.

One subpoena issued in late April requested documents about investments by the retirement fund, including correspondence with Aldus Equity Partners, a Dallas-based firm that once served as a financial adviser to ERB. Aldus has been charged with alleged securities violations in the New York case.
