The price of lunch with Warren Buffett has gone down since last year but it's still not cheap.

Tonight (Friday), this year's charity eBay auction ended at $1,680,300.  The winner wants to be anonymous.

That's 20 percent below last year's record $2.1 million but 2-1/2 times the previous year's price.

Proceeds go to San Francisco's Glide FoundationBuffett tells us Glide is "probably as remarkable a social organization as there is in the country."

Tonight, a spokeswoman says the group is happily surprised at the generosity of the bid and is "cheering" the fact that it easily topped 2007's $650,100.  That auction was won by investors Mohnish Pabrai and Guy Spiers.

There had been concerns the nation's economic recession might substantially hold back potential bidders this time around.  Buffett himself described the economy as being in a "shambles" when he spoke live on CNBC two days ago, just before hosting last year's high bidder, Hong Kong hedge fund manager Zhao Danyang.
